Integrative Psychiatrist
From a young age, I've felt drawn to supporting others through their challenges and helping them heal and grow. This path felt natural to me, shaped by my ability to listen deeply and understand the emotional experiences of others.
Like many people, I've lived through grief, major life transitions, and periods of anxiety and self-doubt. I've faced health concerns, financial strain, and challenging family dynamics. I've also struggled at times with feeling out of place, navigating expectations, and searching for a sense of belonging and acceptance.
These experiences taught me what it is like to feel uncertain, to question one's identity, and to rebuild a grounded sense of self with intention and care. They also revealed the profound strength that can emerge from clarity, community, and perseverance.
A meaningful period of personal and spiritual growth later deepened my understanding of myself and strengthened my ability to be present with others in their moments of uncertainty and change. These experiences shaped how I show up as a psychiatrist: grounded, compassionate, and committed to meeting people exactly where they are, without judgment.
I am very fortunate and grateful to have 2 wonderful children, 2 adorable cats, and a loving and supportive family. I enjoy teaching, reading, cooking, making crafts, watching TV/movies, traveling, and helping others heal and grow.

Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry — a foundation that provides holistic understanding of human development and behavior.
Think of it like a car dealer who learned by working at the factory where cars are built, versus one who only worked on the showroom floor. My child and adolescent training gives me insight into all aspects of human development—the building and formation of who we become. It's not just a population I trained to treat; it's a way of thinking holistically and understanding human behavior at its roots.
I've worked across the full spectrum of psychiatric care—outpatient clinics, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, specialty psychiatry clinics, county mental health centers serving underserved populations, and urgent-care mental health settings.
I've provided psychiatric consultations in hospitals, emergency departments, and schools. I've also served as a mentor for early-career psychiatrists and as a clinical supervisor for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and therapists.
Currently, I serve as Medical Director of Rising Up, an intensive outpatient program focused on holistic, evidence-based care.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and flexible. I provide medication management and optimization that is evidence based. I also draw from modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and depth psychology. I incorporate spiritual practices and original techniques as well to customize care for each individual.
"I am genuine, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. Nothing you share about yourself—including your past and what you are experiencing now—will make me think less of you. I understand that life can be deeply challenging and that experiences and choices reflect what felt appropriate or necessary at the time."
I walk alongside you with empathy, respect, and genuine care as you reconnect with your own resilience.
I see my role as a guide who helps you discover your own answers—not someone who tells you how to live your life.
I believe healing involves mind, body, and spirit—rediscovering purpose, identity, and meaning as you move toward wholeness.
It would be my honor to walk beside you as you move forward on your journey toward healing and growth.
Administrative Assistant
Maria is the Administrative Assistant at Dr. Jessee Valentine Integrative Psychiatry. She helps create a positive, welcoming, and well-organized experience for every patient. As the first point of contact for many individuals seeking care, Maria takes pride in offering a calm and supportive presence.
She brings strong administrative skills, excellent communication, and a detail-oriented approach to supporting the practice's daily operations. Maria assists with scheduling, patient inquiries, and behind-the-scenes coordination—always with care and professionalism. With a genuine commitment to compassionate service, Maria strives to help each patient feel heard, respected, and supported from their very first interaction with the practice.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time with her lovely niece, taking walks with her dog, and cooking snacks for herself and her family. She also loves watching inspirational movies such as The Greatest Showman, Miracles from Heaven, and many others. Recently, she has developed an interest in reading books that deepen her understanding of human nature and personal growth.
Our mission is to provide nonjudgmental, compassionate, and evidence-based mental health care that goes beyond treating symptoms to address the deeper roots of distress.
We support patients in living authentically, grounded in their core values, through the process of individuation—helping you differentiate from limiting patterns, integrate disowned parts of yourself, and align your life with who you're genuinely becoming.
Drawing on rigorous psychiatric training from Yale University and the University of Iowa, we create a safe and collaborative space where healing and transformation happen. Our work is rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and authenticity—empowering you to embrace your true self and build a life of greater resilience, meaning, and wholeness.
Individuation is the psychological process of becoming a whole, authentic individual—distinct from the roles, expectations, and identities imposed by family, culture, and society.
It involves differentiating yourself from collective influences while integrating the various parts of yourself—including those you may have denied, hidden, or not yet discovered.
Individuation is not about rejecting your past or relationships, but about consciously choosing which values, beliefs, and ways of being truly belong to you, so you can live from your own center rather than from external expectations.
The self is always evolving; it's not a fixed place to arrive, but a lifelong process of becoming—of discovering, integrating, and expressing the parts of yourself that feel most genuine as you continue to grow and change.
We provide compassionate care that honors who you are. Our mission is to help adults embrace their true selves and live their fullest, most authentic lives.
We combine evidence-based psychiatry and a combination of psychotherapy modalities, including depth-oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure response prevention, along with holistic practices such as nutrition, movement, meditation, and spiritual exploration.
Every treatment plan is personalized, collaborative, and delivered in a safe and nonjudgmental space.
Care decisions are made together. I use established psychiatric and psychotherapeutic tools, guided by current evidence and your preferences.
Sessions integrate medication management with psychotherapy in extended appointments, allowing time for both biological, psychological, and social aspects of healing. This approach means we can address symptoms while exploring deeper patterns, all in one cohesive treatment relationship.
When it supports your goals, care may incorporate mindfulness, nutrition, movement, or spiritual practices alongside evidence-based psychiatry and psychotherapy.
In our work together, we focus on supporting your individuation process—helping you differentiate from limiting patterns, integrating all aspects of yourself, and aligning your life with who you truly are.
